Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) Visits Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration

On April 12, 2024, a delegation led by Secretary-General Joanne Lau of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) visited the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA). Dr. Liu Xiaochun, president of SCIA and Executive Chairman of the Board of South China International Arbitration Center (HK) (SCIAHK), met with Secretary-General Joanne Lau. Both parties exchanged views on the development trends of international arbitration and reached a new consensus on jointly building an Asian international arbitration hub facing the world in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

After the meeting, SCIA, SCIAHK, and HKIAC jointly held a promotional event for "ICCA 2024 Hong Kong", introducing the XXVIth Congress of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) to professionals home and abroad. The ICCA Congress is the highest-level and largest regular event in the international arbitration community, held every two years. The last session was hosted by Edinburgh, UK, with more than 1,200 professionals from over 50 countries participating. This session was successfully bid for by Hong Kong, standing out among many international cities. With the support of the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong SAR, the XXVIth Congress of ICCA will be hosted by HKIAC, with SCIA and SCIAHK as the highest-level supporting organizations (Diamond Sponsors), and will be held in Hong Kong from May 5 to May 8, 2024. Unlike previous ICCA Congresses, this session will not only be held in Hong Kong but also feature a "Shenzhen Side Event" on May 9, where professionals from various countries will come to the innovative city of Shenzhen, to learn about the latest developments in international arbitration in Chinese mainland. The Shenzhen Side Event of ICCA will be jointly organized by the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong SAR, SCIA, SCIAHK and HKIAC.

At the joint promotional event, President Dr. Liu Xiaochun and Secretary-General Joanne Lau delivered welcome speeches on behalf of SCIA and HKIAC, respectively. Vice President An Xin of SCIA presided over the joint promotional event and introduced the history of cooperation between SCIA and HKIAC over the past 30 years. Yang Ling, Deputy Secretary-General of HKIAC, and Huang Guoyong, Director of the International Cooperation and Development Department of SCIA, introduced the specific arrangements for this year's ICCA Hong Kong Congress and Shenzhen Side Event.
